In my case it depends on many factors, but what I always do: is to acknowledge the situation without assigning any blame. Then if the child is open to explore the feelings around not wanting to come or be in the room, I try to provide an environment that facilitates the expression of said feelings.
We have all been there before, in places we were not very sure we wanted to be, unsure of our feelings and the expectations placed on us by ourselves and/or by others.
